I get wanting to spend more time in the world with the characters, but unless episodes are entirely self-contained I don’t want 20+ episode seasons where one half to a third of it is essentially filler. The overarching narrative is better focused and has more impact with shorter seasons. LOST’s arguably best season (as an overall season) was its shortest, and I actually liked Korra more than AtLA in part because it was (usually) more narratively focused. There’s also shows where I’ve just straight up stopped watching because there were too many episodes and the narrative wasn’t going anywhere (or crawling at a glacial pace).
With a few exceptions, all the shows that have had the most impact on me and are the most memorable are relatively short.
That said, the binging model is awful, and they should definitely bring back one episode per week releases. Also, yes, production times (especially for live action) have gotten completely out of hand.

Hello again. I have another idea that occurred to me during class. Does ENA know what a birthday is? It's been so long since I watched the series. If she does know, she's probably never had one for herself (definitely not a good one). What if reader found out and was like "no, you're existence is worth celebrating and I'm glad you are in my life. I'm gonna do something to prove it." I feel like this idea fits more with Series!ENA, but I think BBQ!ENA would also benefit from not having her point of existence for someone be just endless tasks for once. Thoughts on this? Don't worry if you have too many requests to do right now, I just wanted to once again throw my thoughts out there. Please have a good day/night!
It's okay! I love all these ideas ya'll are giving me. I'd like to think she does, but she's never had a good one nor one worth remembering.
But I'll do both girlies justice bc I want them to be happy <3
......
Series!Ena
It's just a normal rainy day, where you and Ena were taking shelter inside your home. You were watching a show on the 32-Bit television while she was staring at your calendar like it was the morning paper.
"[Y/n], it's come to my attention that you have a specific date marked here that is rapidly approaching."
"Um..I have several things marked on that calendar, Ena." You pause the episode to look at her. "You're gonna have to be more specific than that."
"Why, I'm referring to your birthday, of course!" Her feminine voice giggles, before switching back to her more masculine tone. "Got any special plans? Are you ready for the ritualistic songs and rites of gift-exchanges?"
"Erm...ready as I'll ever be, sweetheart."
"That's wonderful! But hmm....what day should my birthday be on this year?" She holds a marker up, looking over several dates with a quizzical expression. "June? October? February 29th? Or maybe---" You see her violently glitch into her sad form. "--nevewr! Because everyone threw my invitations away LAST yeawr!! All that time and effowt...GONE!! Just like I should be!" She slams her head down onto the table and sobs, tears and marker bleeding into the paper.
Once again, you were forced to learn something truly and utterly devastating about your girlfriend: she's never had a good birthday celebration.
Before meeting you, she was vaguely aware of the "tradition". And one random day last year, she declared it to be her birthday, simply because it felt very "birthdayish", and sent out as many invitations as she could.
Nobody else showed up, except Moony and a small hourglass dog that she kept hostage in her pocket dimension--both of whom stayed for merely five minutes before leaving her in front of a burnt turron, depressed beyond measure.
Ena told you offhand that people seemingly laughed at her invitations and rolled their eyes, claiming that her "annoying" existence wasn't worth any kind of celebration......but she acted like it didn't bother her until now.
She assumed it's because she got the day "wrong" and tried aiming for a different one this time, one that both you and her could agree upon.
But given her current wailing and the fact that you'll definitely have to order a new calendar soon....she was feeling pretty hopeless.
Luckily you're quick to come up with an idea, as you hated seeing your girlfriend like this. "Hey, how about we make it for tomorrow? I have something good planned."
"No, just fowget it. I-I'm not in the mood anymowe." She sniffles, looking at you. "M-My existence is worthless-"
"No, it may not mean a lot to some people...but it means a lot to me. More than you could possibly know." You insist, rubbing her back. "I want to celebrate you, Ena, because I love you and I'm so happy that you exist. I'm glad you're part of my life."
"...you're just saying thaaaat."
"No. I'll prove it to you. Let's just mark it down for tomorrow, okay? I promise you won't regret it." You give her a kiss, and for a moment, you see the white half of her face smile. Just barely.
"O...Okay.."
Tomorrow comes, and Ena expects nothing...yet you surprise her with turron, made from a recipe you acquired from a shady stall, decorated with blue and yellow candies and adorned with a pick featuring a popup ad that said "Happy Existence Day, ENA".
Since she's not a big fan of parties, it was just you two spending the day together and her getting calls from the few entities who tolerated her (Moony, Merci, Phindoll, etc.).
It's a great day, and you two end it going out for drinks, where she's switching between her drunk forms while ranting about how much she appreciated you (which is the most you've understood her while she was in that state), and giving you a lot of hugs and slurred words of affirmation.
But you know she means them with all her heart and soul, even if she forgets the next day.
She's so happy that her entire body stays yellow even as you both come home, and she hugs you and sincerely thanks you for proving her wrong.
BBQ!Ena
It started off as a harmless and innocent inquiry, not giving it much thought. "Weird question, Ena...but have you ever celebrated a birthday before?"
"Pfffft, have I ever taken a vacation?" Her Meanie side bluntly sneers back, staring at you as though she gave you a riddle to solve.
"Uh..not that I can-"
"CONGRATS!! You've just answered yourself! Want a gold star for that?!" She goes back to admiring the png of some unidentified organ floating between her hands, trying to determine its market value.
Although her face eventually flickers back to its Salesperson side, who appears a little guilty for her outburst. Her gaze lingers, eyes buzzing with curiosity and....a hint of longing and want.
"Apologies." She suddenly claps her hands, the organ turning into nothing but bloody ooze that dissolves into the soil. "What I meant to say was....no. I'm not familiar with such a tradition. Is the commemoration of one's existence a common practice in your workplace?"
If you're human, this is yet another simple question you could answer. But even if you weren't, you fully knew about birthdays and have celebrated some yourself, or other friends'.
Apparently, Ena doesn't even know what that entails, and/or believed hers was simply not recognized by others since her species isn't well-liked around here.
All her life, she's only ever known how to carry out endless tasks and never doubt the assignment. That was her M.O, and to take some random day off would make her Meanie side break out into a cold sweat.
But ever since that conversation, you've heard her uttering a specific date that seemed important. One that was coming up soon. She spoke of it in various ways: through her business cards she hands to clients who didn't wanna take them in the first place. Through graphs she sketches of your probabilities of success in a job, hidden in plot points. And even through hushed whispers when you're both cuddling, but she refused to elaborate further.
Either something really good or really horrible occurred on that date. It was 50/50 guess, but from what you've gathered, it was the day she broke free of her mannequin husk and formulated her own identity.
It seemed close enough to a birthday, so you rolled with it and began planning something for her behind the scenes (with Froggy's reluctant assistance).
You wanted her to know that you appreciated her existence. Meanie sometimes found it hard to see that, and Salesperson, while she understands and appreciates your appreciation, thinks you're mainly with her for the "business" and "workplace benefits"--so you had to prove both sides of her wrong.
You loved her for her, not for what she was capable of.
When that fated date arrived, you sent her an S.O.S, and she rendezvous at the scene (your house) asap, wondering what the emergency was.
Instead, she finds you and a simple surprise on the table. And for once...this talkative entity has no words.
While you weren't sure if turrons were an ENA's universal favorite, you took a shot in the dark and baked one with fluffy white powder and red candy sprinkles on top, adorning it with a pick that had a star that simply looked cool. It was small, as you didn't wanna risk messing up a big cake.
Froggy criticized your entire baking process, but you were proud of its result, and even prouder when your girlfriend took one bite, and her eyes lit up like the fourth of july.
Not only that, but you also gifted her a laminated photograph of your first assignment with Ena. It stood the test of time, covered in a few scratches here and there. She didn't even know you had a camera.
"Oh, I stole it actually. But I promised to pay them...........woah, are you crying??" You see her static tears getting on the turron, desaturating its vibrant color.
She still hasn't said a word, but she can't stop crying silently and trembling. And it scares you at first. You're convinced that you royally screwed this up and today was actually the worst day of her life--
Until her head floats a little more away from her body than usual to kiss you on the cheek.
Before Meanie takes over and lightly headbutts you. "Now look what you've done, you idiot! Getting me all sappy like this on my Existence Day is gonna cost you!" She snaps, even though she's fighting back a smile and more tears.
".....what's it gonna cost me?"
"C-Calculating........one hug will suffice." Salesperson mutters, sniffling.
"Oh! Alright. You had me worried there." You cradle her head in your arms, petting her hair. "So...I was right. Today's the day you, the love of my life, came into existence. I'm glad you were born, and I'm not listening to anyone--Genie or not--who says you should be punished for that."
Once again, you've managed to silence her, through words this time instead of actions. There's no back sass from Meanie. No business offers or quips from Salesperson.
All she does is close her eyes and allow herself this moment of joy.
You proved a big point: She is worth celebrating, and you made damn sure she knew that this was gonna become a yearly occurrence.
She won't use it as an excuse to slack off of work, but she's always curious as to what surprises you'll have waiting for her next time.

If I'm not mistaken (and I fully could be so please let me know if I am) but didn't you used to be much closer to 2 million subscribers? I swear I remember seeing you at like 1.98 or something.
Either way, is there a good way to support you on Youtube? Or is that something I shouldn't worry about too much? Do you know if there's a good way to promote your videos to the algorithm that will have a good effect?
I've been hovering in the 1.8-1.9M range for like ~3 years or so now. The internet as it is now only boosts consistent uploads that are 15+ minutes long or TikTok-style vertical videos that are <2 minutes long with captions.
I don't do either of those and I have no interest in pivoting my stuff in that direction, so I think it's likely I'll probably never hit 2 million. It is what it is.
Subscribers have mattered less and less over the years. I remember them feeling really valuable in like... maybe pre-2015 when your subscriptions were at the top of your homepage and they prioritized showing you the stuff you said you were actually interested in, but now the sub page is super buried and unless you sign up for individual notifications from a channel you probably won't even know they uploaded anymore.
The internet is a slave to algorithms now. Stuff gets popular pretty much entirely independent of subscription count.
Jenny Nicholson and Hbomb are two of my favorite YouTubers who make absolutely incredible marathon-length videos once or twice a year (which is the exact type of thing you'd want subscriptions for), and even though both of them have been putting out mega-viral documentary-length videos every year for the last three years or so, their sub counts haven't exploded. People write articles on the things they make, in real publications too. New York Times and HuffPost shit. Yet both of them have less subs than me. Jenny has 1.3M and Hbomb has 1.8M which is insane. They should both be at like 3M+ easily for the stuff they make, and if they had the popularity they do now back in 2012, they probably would have the equivalent to that.
By the same token, I have a streaming channel that I do fully-voiced readthroughs of games on and there are people who try to watch almost every stream that often show up late and complain about how YouTube never notifies them. They had to hear about it via a friend on Discord even though they're subscribers AND they have notifications on. Being subscribed quite literally does not do anything these days.
It's worth noting that YT subs aren't really reflective of a channel's overall "health", if you want to call it that. My streaming channel has been doing really well the last two months. We played Danganronpa for charity and had the best viewership we ever got with 1100-1600 viewers for any given episode, which is really high. That's like Top 0.1% of Twitch numbers. We also get a ton of donations and artwork from our fans and watch time is up 40% from the last month right now. Forty percent. That's crazy!
But our sub count keeps dropping. We lose about 100 subscribers a month, for whatever reason. But isn't that weird? That literally every other metric on your channel can be skyrocketing while subscribers go down? It seems like they really don't matter.
We've had over 100k subscribers for a year and a half now, but YouTube still hasn't mailed us that plaque. I doubt they ever will. I'd be surprised if anyone on their staff even checks that anymore. Today's internet is focused on keeping viewers moving to new content and showing them as many ads as possible while they do it. There isn't as much of a benefit to keeping someone watching one particular person anymore.
I appreciate you trying to support us! I think just watching our stuff when you feel like it and maybe showing your favorite videos to friends every once in awhile if you think they'll like it is the best thing you can do. If even one person ends up watching and binging all my Epithet stuff that's like 6 hours of watchtime right there.

In Class 2
I was going to wait to binge watch the rest of the show tomorrow but honestly I need to put this show behind me for several reasons. Let me just get this out of the way before I say anything else. I am a big fan of the manhwa, simple as it may be. I have lived with these characters in my head for two years now. So my bias is clearly showing. But one thing that I want to make perfectly clear. Just because I love the manhwa, and admittedly I have a bias, does not mean I am dense, and incapable of watching and judging the show as it's own thing. I still have a brain. Ok. Now for the show. This usually goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. These are my opinions. Read at your own risk.
This is not a bad show. It's also not a bl. And that fact alone, makes this a bad adaptation. Let’s be honest, they adapted a bl and turned it into something that’s not a bl any more, as many have stated before. This is a kdrama with queer themes. Liking the show, and even acknowledging that it’s good, doesn’t change that fact. And if people honestly can't understand why people would have a problem with that, then nothing I will say about it will make a difference.
Now for the actual show. As a kdrama this isn't a bad series. The characters have depth, the astronomy metaphors are clever, even if at times they felt really heavy-handed, the acting is really good, for the most part, and there are some brilliant scenes that could make this show a great one. But it doesn't all come together. It's inconsistent. And it doesn't commit to its queerness. It's a series that was made two years ago, and it shows. Maybe even further back, actually. Which, regardless of my feelings for the source, is just sad. I'm not a romance kdrama watcher so I have no real frame of reference in that regard. But it seems like this show wanted to be a couple of different things but ended up not being either. It's not queer enough to be a bl, but it's too queer to be mainstream. It's not hard to see why this show couldn't find distribution for two years. They were aiming for mainstream but that was never gonna happen two years ago. Well, it didn't happen right now either, so...
My favourite part was the sisters. I love them. I think their various adventures in dating were really important as a parallel to Heesu. Which is one of the reasons I don't think the Chanyoung and JiYu couple were necessary to drive that point home. Nor do I think that's why they were there. One of my favourite scenes was Heesu coming out to his sister. And her reaction basically being, "Oh, I should say I love him now, that's what one should do in this situation." It was so well done.
Ahn Ji Ho was great as Heesu. Just really great. His emotions shined through beautifully throughout the whole series. Lee Sang Jun also did an amazing job as Seung Won. His physicality was on point at all times. I love these two so much.
I think time was not used efficiently here. Mostly with the queer couple. I live for pining besties. But by episode 9, there were way too many chances and everything with the hets was already in the open, so why stretch it out? Cause it feels purposefully stretched. The editing in the final two episodes was a mess and I kept wondering what might've been left on the cutting room floor. It just didn't flow at all, and I kept getting pulled out of the emotional journey. It really seemed like they were forced to have 10 episodes but they couldn't really give us more than 5 minutes of the boys together so they made a mess of things in the final stretch.
I think the friendship between Heesu and Chanyoung was the weaker part of all this. They never felt, to me, like best friends. A lot of times, there's an issue with friends to lovers, which is the blurring of lines. You are crushing on your best friend, so everything becomes deeper, more hurtful, than if he was just your best friend. I think for the most part, Heesu navigated this pretty well. We've certainly seen much worse. He slipped sometimes and messed up, but he never really stopped being by Chanyoung's side.
However, this is still a very unbalanced friendship, mostly because of Chanyoung. He makes fun of Heesu for not having any friends, but it seems like he has the same problem. Cause it seems like he only reaches out to Heesu when he has a problem. He comes and goes as he pleases, and if he hadn't been sleeping at his house and seen Heesu unable to sleep, I doubt he would've noticed anything was wrong with Heesu at all. I'm not saying Heesu was a perfect friend, btw. But the confession scene and the subsequent summoning of Heesu to the tennis court where Chanyoung could feel safe, where he literally has home court advantage, where he could throw balls at Heesu, was a step too far for me. (Also, JiYu, you could do better!)
I liked the final three minutes because I have a heart. And I could finally watch my boys be together even if only for a short time. But it came too late and it stumbled too much to get there for me to feel the level of joy that I usually get. I think I needed more of them throughout the show to feel that same sense of joy when they moved past all the hurdles and finally got together.
I think maybe I should stop now. I think I could forgive more about this show if it was actually mainstream. If I could say, you know what? At least we're getting a queer coming of age story in a mainstream kdrama. I might still not like that they chose this manhwa for it, because there’s no shortage of those, so to pick one that is just about two boys falling in love and little else confuses me. But at least then I could feel like something was accomplished here. As it stands, I'm just left disappointed by a show that I had been waiting for since I first read the manhwa a couple of years ago.
#heesu in class 2#kdrama#rose rambles#I have absolutely no hope that this manhwa will ever get adapted again#but I wish the second part of the manhwa was adapted into a bl#I like the second couple so much

cw: celebrity!caleb x gn!reader, just very silly fluffy headcanons! Reader is set to have an interviewing series similar to Chicken Shop Date called Tea-Time Talk!! (lowercase intended)
a/n: recently been geeking out over Love and Deepspace (might have a gambling addiction because of the gacha system) so i decided to write for Caleb :33 but i also have a longer fic for Sylus in the works.. wink wink
celebrity!caleb who gets restless at the thought of finally being able to join you on an episode for Tea-Time Talk, after months of pestering his manager and stalking all your posts and videos for the third time. (He's a d1 fan..)
celebrity!caleb whose eyes shine so bright when he's meeting you for the first time, resisting the urge to celebrate when you pull him in for a hug to greet him.
celebrity!caleb who brings out a gift as he sits down, smiling proudly as he watches you gasp in awe at the set of exotic and rare teas he got you!
celebrity!caleb who laughs just a little too hard at your jokes, full on slapping his knee, almost falling out of his seat. All while you blink in mild amusement and surprise. Surely you couldn't have been that funny..
celebrity!caleb who watches you skillfully pour him a cup of tea with his elbow resting against the table, holding up his arm which serves as a pillowy surface for him to lay his pretty little head on, giving you that signature puppy-dog-yearning look he's known for.
celebrity!caleb who takes a second too long to respond, a dumb smile on his lips as he watches you talk. His brain catches up a little late when he sees your gorgeous eyes narrow at him instead of sparkling and speaking all your sentences for you..
celebrity!caleb who answers all your questions earnestly, but is eager to learn more about you! So what if he starred in a new film or had a new feature or project out? He wants to know where you got that scar on your index finger from.
celebrity!caleb who compliments you on your tea pouring skills, playfully commenting about how you're a professional. (Which you are, considering this is your job..)
celebrity!caleb who runs through so many cups of tea from how much he simply sat and listened to you talk, preferring very much to listen to your voice. (Oh, and also– he just happens to take pretty large sips..)
celebrity!caleb who hums ruefully when you lament about how less you learned about him during your date– (even though you call every episode a “date” it doesn't make him any less giddy) only to then enthusiastically suggest a second date, all while his bright doe eyes stared you down.
celebrity!caleb who grins charmingly when you tell him you'll think about it, already thinking about how he'll get all his friends to comment on the video when it's up, imploring that you bring him on a second date.
celebrity!caleb who hugs you goodbye in his large and muscular arms, whispering in that quiet and husky voice about how nice it was to be on the show with you, passing you a small wink as he walks off set.
celebrity!caleb whose phone blows up once the video goes up on your channel, with everyone commenting about how there was so much chemistry between you two!
celebrity!caleb who can't help but preen and gloat when he sees comments talking about how you seemed to be extra flustered and break character around him, more than you'd done with anyone else.
celebrity!caleb who takes one good look at the views amassed on his video with you, and starts planning out his next date with you because duh!
celebrity!caleb who doesn't hesitate to @ you when he tweets “so when's the next date? ;)” thinking he definitely swooned you.
celebrity!caleb who definitely had you swooned, but he doesn't need to know that..

wandee goodday anon reporting back, i enjoyed it so very much. loved the characters, loved the dynamics, wanted to punch dr ter in the nose a few times. i loved that there wasn't a episode 11 of doom?? and how generally light and colourful the show is, both in mood and visually especially as i watched never let me go (phuwin's kissing is my enemy but that's off topic) just before lmao, the contrast was something else.
i also was delighted to have a side couple that a) was established from the start and b) only had drama totally unrelated to their relationship and stayed wholesome and loving each other the whole time, cher bestest boyfriend/brother in law/son in law/gym manager 💕💕.
the whole one night stand to fwb to fake dating thing in 2.5 episodes was hilarious and so was the fake dating to swimming in denial for about the whole rest of the show taking about one or two episodes, thank god yak got clarity soon enough because i would've tried to punch him too but he ended up having the patience of an angel. i was highly entertained that being seen in a same sex relationship as a public figure was a problem for him that lasted a whole 5 minutes too.
dee is the loveliest bean and i love a character who stands their ground when the person who rejected them just magically realises their feelings when a new love interest appears, like how many times was ter basically told to get lost ffs.
oh right i also love a forgiving parents for things that are actually forgivable moment because i've had enough of the shittiest parents of the decade in drama-land crying over their faults for a minute and the kids are like yknow what it's okay i don't mind about the trauma you gave me anymore ✌️🤪
had fun spotting a few places from other shows (golf's gay café, vivi's place in love sea -love what they did to it btw, dee's place might be one of my favourite fiction apartments-, boston's pace) and had even more fun laughing at emi's hair extensions, who did that to my girl?? and that ~american~ champion whatshisname's thick ass french accent.
all in all, 10/10 show, greatinn are wonderful together, might rewatch in the future, can't wait for the memoir of rati heartbreak (i was already looking forward to it bc of actual plot reasons but now that i've seen the guys in it can act good and kiss pretty, it's all bonus points).
I'm so glad you liked it! Sorry it took so long for me to respond to this. I was actually in the process of re-watching Wandee Goodday myself and wanted to finish it before I answered this ask. It's such a good show and stands up very well even on a rewatch.
Since you watched after the fact, you avoided most of the fandom drama, but when I tell you people hated this show and yet continued watching week after week just to shit on it. It was one of my more bizarre fandom experiences for sure. Like I get why there was drama surrounding Only Friends. I don't get why there were such a visceral reaction to a cute little romcom.
The highlights for me were the incorporation of casual sex into the narrative in a way I felt was realistic and, of course, OyeiCher who still have my whole heart. Emi's extensions were an absolute travesty.
One thing I did notice on my rewatch which I missed the first time through is that Yak often switches his polite particle to "ka" when talking to Dee, which is very soft and flirtatious. The reason it stood out to me is that I've noticed Great does this with Inn too and I wonder if it was his choice to change the dialogue rather than something that was in the script?
Memoir of Rati only has 2 or 3 Qs left, so I'm hoping we will get it by June. I have a lot of faith in this screenwriter and am very excited to see GreatInn again because I miss them terribly 😭

happy one year of dead boy detectives!! ❤️🔎💙
incoming very long very sappy ramble about it:
it's always the shows you find while you're ill at home and just looking for something to make time go faster, huh?
see: me last june, suffering in bed because of a really bad chest infection and stumbling on a few tumblr posts about this silly ghost show, then deciding to watch it because i had nothing better to do, and needed something to distract me from feeling like shit.
i knew ten minutes into watching episode one that this show would become a fixation - and a big one. but even that is such an understatement of how much i love this show and how much it means to me.
i've been in many fandoms over the years, gone through many phases of a movie or a tv show taking over my life and personality for weeks or months at a time but i don't think any of them have stuck with me as much as dead boy detectives. sure if you mention any of my past interests i'll get really excited and mentally dust them off, but this one hasn't had the time to gather the dust in the first place. i'm also always desperate for everyone i know to watch whatever it is my brain is fixated on at any time, but i fear i annoyed my friends and family more than ever with this one, i'll still bring it up in conversation whenever i can
i've always been more of a character-oriented person than a plot person - even if a piece of media has a plot that barely makes sense, i will obsess over it if it has good characters. and this show has SUCH good characters. they're all so unique and every one is relatable in some strange way. and, of course, the queer representation is everything to me. it's SO queer without feeling performative about it. so many of the characters are queer and that aspect of their character is an intrinsic part of who they are as a person without it being their only trait. i only hope future shows take notes. no show has ever really had characters that resonated with me as much as these ones, especially the core four. and bonus! it has brilliant plot writing, too!!
and of course the cast and crew are all just as brilliant. i love when you can just tell the people involved in a show had a genuine passion and genuinely loved working on it. that's evident in every part of dead boy detectives, and the cast interactions that still happen even a year later.
this fandom is hands down one of the kindest most welcoming ones i've ever been in: the fandom events (i ran one myself and co-ran another!! i've never been that involved with a fandom before and it was so much fun), the meta commentary, the fics, the fanart - and the people. i only joined the dbda haunt discord a couple months ago but it's already one of my favourite online places to be and the people i've met on there are all absolutely wonderful, i love you all sm <3
the inspiration this show has given me to write fanfic has been INSANE. i've written before, but i've never had this many ideas i'm so desperate to write down. i still have so many that haven't been written yet!!
okay this post is long and i'm rambling but i just love this show so much and even though we've now had twice as much time since the cancellation as there was before it, i'm in awe of how much the fandom has arguably grown since then. i'll never stop fighting to get this show back, but even if we don't, i'm forever grateful for what we've got and the people i've met and become mutuals with because of it, and i truly believe no one will ever be able to stop us keeping this show alive - no pun intended
happy one year dead boy detectives, can't wait to see what the fandom brings over the next one <33
#am i about to cry? no#not at all#why would i#me getting emotional over my favourite show?? this has never been heard of ever!!#literally the only show that's ever had this much of an impact on me is doctor who and i've been watching that for like 14 years#dead boy detectives#dbda#my dbda posts

I think people really need to see this tweet actually.
I know a lot of people have a "let's just not talk about the leaks" attitude but this could be very seriously bad for the show so I think we do need to talk about them actually.
Something that has always scared me about Dragons Rising is the fact that it's a Netflix show and Netflix is the kind of service to drop an amazing show with an amazing crew as soon as they get the chance, just so they can make the shittiest, most pain-inducing film you've ever seen in your life.
As far as I'm aware, we've never been told that DR season 4 was greenlit, so for all we know, it hasn't been yet. In which case, these leaks may have just guaranteed that it doesn't ever get green lit.
If you have watched those leaks, there's a chance you may have just watched a Ninjago season for the first time, for the last time.
That being said, if you HAVE watched those leaks, you are NOT selfish (as long as you intend on watching the episodes again when they're officially released). There's no problem in watching them now that they're out there (although I would avoid searching for them - I don't intend on watching the episodes until they're officially released but if a clip comes up on my fyp on tiktok, I'll watch it).
However, if you ARE watching the episodes now and you DON'T intend on watching the episodes when they're officially released, you ARE selfish.
The biggest problem with these leaks is NOT that we're going to enjoy the show less without a wait, or that this may be the last season of our favourite show (although those are both DEFINITELY problems). The biggest problem is that, if the show DOES get cancelled, so many amazing, talented people will have lost their jobs.
Do you realise how long it takes the writers to write? Do you realise how long it takes the animators to animate? Do you realise how long it takes the voice actors to record? And do you realise that they are not getting paid NEARLY enough for doing this (and are now facing other threats to their jobs such as GenAI)?
And yet some people in this fandom cannot even wait a fucking week to watch what the Ninjago team have spent MONTHS creating. It is NOT fair to the people who spend all their time making this show for you to enjoy, the same people who give you the two parts separately so you can enjoy new episodes of the show throughout the year, without having to wait too long.
No wonder Doc Wyatt wants a fucking break. He may have just watched his show ending. It's not fucking fair and I feel so bad for him.
So yeah, actually, DO talk about the leaks. Because people need to know that this CANNOT happen again.
#a lot of people see this kind of situation as funny but it's not NEARLY as funny as you think#lego really need to put more security over their ninjago episodes because this is getting ridiculous#whoever was responsible for this needs to get a new job rn#ninjago#lego ninjago#ninjago dragons rising#ninjago dr#ninjago dragons rising season 3#ninjago leaks#ninjago dr s3#ninjago dragons rising s3

Sorry to rant but
I actually liked kyman when i started getting into South Park because of their dynamic and Cartman's obvious obsession with kyle. I'm a big fan of enemies to lovers too, so Kyman checked all the boxes for me.
However, Gingercow changed my perspective of them. I remember finding this episode in a "Kyman centered episodes" list. I only made it up until the first scene where Cartman farts on Kyle before pausing and just staring at a wall for some time. I didn't finish it, but that scene alone made me so... uncomfortable.
I'm only sharing my first impression of the episode (and i doubt this was even intended on Matt and Trey's part) but it felt like a rape allegory. It felt like Kyle was being raped by Cartman and i couldnt stand to watch it. It wasnt just because of the literal grossness of the scene, but the fact that it was Kyle being forced to submit.
At first, i felt like maybe Matt and Trey were trying to shut down Kyman shippers, so i decided to pretend that the episode didn't happen. I was aware that it had been selected by a shipper as a "Kyman" episode, but i thought it was probably a joke or just a one-time thing, no biggie.
Then the Post Covid specials dropped and a good portion of Kyman shippers blamed Kyle and were upset at him for Cartman's ending. The fact that so many posts dunking on kyle were particularly popular with kyman shippers only made me relate less and less to them. Atp i felt like most kyman shippers only cared about cartman.
After that i couldnt stop noticing how unfair they were to kyle, always expecting him to look out for cartman, to put up with his bullshit while also putting up a fight (to keep up the "sexual tension", ugh) but then calling him bitchy for his reactions to being harassed or saying he has anger issues. I felt like my interpretation of his character was completely different from the majority of Kyman shippers, so i distanced myself from their community and the fandom for a while.
The appeal of kyman to me was that, if cartman were to have a crush on kyle, it kinda gave kyle a little power over him. However, most kyman shippers seem to interpret their relationship similarly to hannigram or other toxic relationships that are romanticized. So, in their eyes, kyle should embrace cartman as he is, cause that's a metaphor for idk homosexuality and eroticisim or something.
All that is fine, really, I fucking love hannigram but thats because they are usually written in a way that empowers will (the victim) over hannibal (the aggressor). They still explore will's "darker" side without trying to justify all the shit hanni puts him through. And, on top of that, unlike kyman, hannibal and will are MEANT to be seen this way. They were written to be interpreted as a toxic romantic couple. Kyle and Cartman, on the other hand, are meant to be comedic and entertaining only.
Im not saying fanon doesnt have the right to exist, but it does bother me when the fandom acts entitled towards the canon. As in, when fans think they could write the story better than the original author. This is particularly annoying with kyman shippers because, as i have explained, they cant even grasp the concept that cartman. wont. change. Not for kyle or anybody else (not even heidi OR YENTL).
just to wrap things up, i obviously do not support or condone any kind of harassment towards kyman shippers and if anybody has comitted or threatened violent actions on them solely for fan wars genuenly get off the internet and go see a therapist. im also aware some kyman shippers follow me and im ok with that! i like kyman fanarts sometimes but i just wanted to share my personal reasons as to why i distance myself from this part of the fandom.
TLDR;
kyman is bad because it is abusive and extremely ooc and kyman shippers are wrong for acting entitled and thinking they know cartman and kyle better than mattrey and the rest of the fandom when they, in fact, do not. also, dont harass anybody over ships.
I need someone to genuinely explain to me why kyman is bad. I don't ship it a lot or anything but sometimes I like the thought of it ig? like oh yeah a healthy relationship between the two would be kinda neat yk? I 100% agree with the people who say an abusive/ unhealthy relationship between them is gross and proship, but I can genuinely see them being happy together. when they're teens ofc bc cartman obviously has some maturing to do. Just take a look at ass burgers or the end of obesity. they care about each other.
#south park#kyle broflovski#sp kyle#sp kyle broflovski#sp cartman#eric cartman#sp kyman#cleaning my draft folder#this one's been on the drafts for MONTHS damn#south park meta#if there are any typos.... just stfu and eat your food

the owl house has some diabolical parallels via framing of scenes but none make me cry more than plant glyph dead dad vs. light glyph dead dad. what if i was never normal about luz and her dead dads (both biological and non-biological) again
[ID from alt:
Luz drawing a plant glyph in Reaching Out
Luz and Amity watching as they send the flowers into the air with a balloon
Luz touching an inert light glyph in Watching and Dreaming
Luz watching with a tearful smile as she releases the light glyph into the wind. The scene has the exact same framing as the scene in Reaching Out.
End ID.]

one of my favourite aspects of supernatural that you very rarely see in paranormal shows is that sam and dean are already versed in the world they live in. there’s no sudden discovery of ghosts and demons and now they have to learn about them along with the audience; they are born into it and already know all about it. it allows the audience to follow their personal story instead of also trying to figure out this new world and its rules
the first season is full of knowledge we never see them learn; “w*ndigoes are in the minnesota woods or- or northern michigan. i’ve never even heard of one this far west.” […] “great. well then this [his gun] is useless.” (1x02), “you don’t break a curse. you get the hell out of its way.” (1x08), d: “it’s a god. a pagan god, anyway.” […] “the annual cycle of its killings? and the fact that the victims are always a man and a woman. like some kind of fertility right.” […] s: “the last meal. given to sacrificial victims. d: “yeah, i’m thinking a ritual sacrifice to appease some pagan god.” (1x11)
almost every episode in the first season is a monster they’ve faced before that they then explain to the audience in a way that should feel patronising; like it’s the same speech given over and over again but instead, the audience almost feels included in the knowledge. it’s stated with such an innate confidence and comfort in said knowledge that it feels like we already knew it too; “spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. if they want inside, they just go through the walls.” […] “the claws, the speed that it moves; could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog.” (1x02), “it's biblical numerology. you know noah's ark, it rained for forty days. the number means death.” (1x04), “no no no, not the reaper, a reaper. there's reaper lore in pretty much every culture on earth, it goes by 100 different names.” […] “you said it yourself that the clock stopped, right? reapers stop time. and you can only see 'em when they're coming at you which is why i could see it and you couldn't.” (1x12)
they already know and, at least in the first season, already have what they need to kill whatever they’re hunting; already know to salt and burn bones for spirits, fire for a w*ndigo, exorcisms for demons, a silver bullet to the heart for shapeshifters. there’s only three times in the entire first season that they run into something new to them; 1x14 when sam gets his first vision that leads him to another psychic, 1x16 when dean calls caleb for help on the sigil he put together and he tells him about daevas, and 1x20 when they find out vampires are real- and they only don’t know that bc john thought they were hunted to extinction and not worth mentioning
(there’s also technically two half instances if you count one of them knowing something the other doesn’t - sam figuring out the tulpa in 1x17 and dean already knowing about the shtriga in 1x18 - but those still rely on sam and dean having prior knowledge)
even when they’re uncertain about facing something, it’s not bc they don’t know what it is; it’s precisely bc they know what it is and acknowledge that it’ll be a difficult hunt (“i don't know, man. this isn't our normal gig. i mean, demons, they don't want anything, just death and destruction for its own sake. this is big. and i wish dad was here.” 1x04)
so much of the tension in paranormal shows typically comes from the main character(s) not knowing what is happening to them/the people around them and having to find out how to resolve it. supernatural is unique in that it operates more like a police procedural. the tension comes from solving the clues and identifying patterns to figure out who (what) the killer is and intercepting before they can take another victim
it’s such a different tone to go for when compared to other shows that came both before, during, and after its run. it sets sam and dean on even footing with each other since they both have the same knowledge going in, and it puts them in a place of authority usually reserved for an outside character
the shows i compare spn to most is charmed, buffy and teen wolf; every main character in those shows are brought into the paranormal world knowing nothing, putting them on the same level as the audience, and they have their mc interact with others already knowledgeable about that world in order to overcome their problem/monster of the week. the audience organically learns about this new world as the characters learn about it. it’s a sound writing strategy that prevents “as we already know”-style exposition but something that complicates it is if your world building isn’t unique or intriguing enough, this slow introduction can become boring
we’ve seen shows like these before; sitting through the same tropes of characters learning to use their powers, struggling with no longer feeling normal/relating to the regular world around them, and not knowing how much they can trust the people already involved in this new world gets repetitive. all three shows eventually reach the same level of comfort with their new world that spn starts with but if the characters aren’t enough to draw you in, you can end up dropping it before they reach that point (and often, before the overarching plot can really kick in and evolve the show beyond the villain of the week format)
it’s the superhero origin movie in tv format; dragged out and overplayed. dropping the audience into an established world of course comes with its own problems but you also have the benefit of pre-existing established character dynamics that let the audience slot in like they’ve always been there instead of just getting to know all the characters while the characters also get to know each other
sam and dean already knowing about the supernatural lets the audience immediately get to the core of the story; the conflict between sam and dean, the search for their father, and the mystery of what killed their mother
#i could go on forever theres literally so many examples#dean figuring the ‘two dark doubles’ is a shapeshifter sam figuring out the changing ghost is a tulpa#also peak how many of these examples come from dean despite them pushing so hard for sam to be the one knowing hunting theory#this format is why i cant stand watching the first season of charmed despite loving it so much#i just cant be bothered watching them have the same struggle ive seen a hundred times play out again#different genre but sons of anarchy does this well too; all the characters are already in the club life and already have inner conflict#spn having such a natural introduction makes me so glad they didnt go with the original plan of sam not knowing about hunting#that wouldve been Painful#watching spn so young has really shaped my view of media bc i legit cant stand things with a learning curve#give me an established world damnit#lord of the rings never stops to explain what a dwarf is! you just go with it! and it rules!#dean is just as theoretical and lore savvy as sam and id go as far to say he actually knows more#instead of trying to do this bullshit brains v brawn divide they shouldve done new tech vs analogue#sams laptop is famous and he also knows how to hack thing where the second dean doesnt know something he defaults to books#have dean be the one where if its written down he can find it almost like a proto bobby#they even kind of support that by him being the one to find the phoenix in s6 when they go through all their books#but this was 2005 and characters could only be so conplex and theyd already decided dean needed to be the hot one and sams the nerd one#side note how many of these metas am i going to write on this rewatch? tbd#side side note included all the quotes and episode numbers makes me feel so academic#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#carry on my wayward son#talk meta to me#meta#supernatural meta#spn#supernatural#dean winchester#sam winchester#save post

everything we know about host!vic’s childhood
(a sisyphean attempt to figure out what the fuck their backstory is)
will this make complete sense? no! absolutely not! and it’ll probably change in two weeks time! but i have thoughts and i am announcing them via megaphone
also for ease i’m referring to them as ‘the host’ rather than ‘host!vic’ for the remainder of this post
the host’s birth family
we know the host was at one point raised by both their parents. were they together? god knows. at some point, their father abandons them/the family and moves to miami, leaving the host and their twin sister katie behind. it’s likely this happens when the host is 7 or younger, as they spend a large amount of time with their grandfather and nana from that age onwards.
when the host is 12, they’re still living with their mother and katie, who doesn’t come to their birthday party, implying that at this time either their father hasn’t left yet or, my belief, that their grandfather and nana are taking partial custody of the twins (well, it’s probably more that their mother is kinda just leaving them there for days at a time)
on the topic of the grandparents: we know the host had a grandfather (bill) who was married to their biological grandmother, who died before the host was born. bill then marries nana. the host also mentions their grandmother on their other side, who apparently takes a lot of cruises.
based on all of this, i believe bill & nana are the host’s maternal grandparents, and their unnamed grandmother is their paternal grandmother. this would suggest that they still had some contact with their father’s side of the family after he abandoned them, although considering she’s always on a cruise she may be avoiding the host and/or their family.
at some point after the host’s 12th birthday, their mother abandons(?) them and katie, and the two live with bill and nana for an undetermined amount of time. somewhat soon after this - when the twins are still young enough not to be safe home alone for too long - nana abandons them for four days, leading to bill divorcing her.
after this… we don’t know a ton. katie and the host grow apart, and as katie mentions their father abandoning them but not their mother it’s likely that she reconnected with their mother at some point. at some point so does the host, although they clearly still have a very strained relationship with their mother considering she refused to come to their birthday.
at some point, bill dies and his entire inheritance goes to nana. this isn’t super important to the timeline but depending on when this happens, it might explain their obsession with money as a power symbol. also the hayes steele thing. in my mind those two are connected but that’s up for interpretation.
as the host is apparently set to be the sole person organising nana’s funeral, it’s likely this was true for bill’s as well. we don’t know how old they were when bill died, but given katie’s absence from the funeral planning it could be assumed that she’s living with their mother at this point while the host is/was living with bill?
so, in summary, my best attempt to figure out the timeline is as follows: the host’s parents split up when the host and katie are around 7, and the two are left in the care of their mother, who regularly leaves them with their grandfather and nana. the host and katie grow apart, and around the age of 12 their mother leaves for a long period. during this time, nana leaves the two home alone for four days, leading to her divorce from the twins’ grandfather. their mother returns, and katie goes to live with her, while the host stays with their grandfather (who may be the only healthy adult in this whole family).
bonus thoughts:
if you subscribe to the idea that the host and the bianca were childhood friends (which i do), they presumably met after the host’s 12th birthday considering she didn’t attend it. this… doesn’t really make the david situation any less fucked up
it’s obvious katie was the golden child, and based on her having been a popular girl and the ‘nerd alert’ thing from nana it’s pretty easy to guess that nana encouraged the two fighting/katie bullying the host (something that their father also seemed to encourage, if we take the sippy cup story from augbert as fact)
#vip#very important people#vital information is i wrote this while watching the vic talia and jiavani episode of msn#i was gonna include a section on david and bianca as well but bantersnatch has that covered i think#anyway i tried to steer away from including too many of my personal theories beyond just the stuff required to make the timeline work#but i did leave a few in bc i liked them#like the hayes steele thing#i think it’s pretty easy to track a lot of the host’s issues and personality back to the things we know about their childhood#and writing it all out here just made that even more obvious#also i have thoughts about katie having been a popular girl and the host trying to use leighanna-jean as a ‘do-over’ on that#but that’s for another time#vip loreposting#host!vic

♪ Dirty Little Secret - The All-American Rejects
Do you remember when I said a while ago that a playlist with 6 songs didn’t sit well with me, so I had a way to add more? This is that way. I’ve put too much though into this universe where every kiss is Noco, so I’m making sketch pages for the comics respective episode, starting with Greeces Pieces!
No one even kisses in this episode, but the reveal plot point was WAY too important and WAY too interesting to ignore. The reveal comic will come eventually, but for now here’s the rest of the episode!!
For funsies here’s my notes about this portion, directly copy pasted from my notes app:
* Noah death glares Tyler, threatening him into silence. Alejandro notices.
* When Heather and Alejandro bicker before landing, Noah shoots Cody a look, saying “they’re crazy” with his eyes. Cody giggles back at him. Sierra notices.
* She questions him about it, not knowing Noah and Cody were friends. Cody awkwardly reaffirms yeah they’re just friends!! Sierra accepts this answer despite Cody stumbling through it. Oopsies I ended up changing this one. I’ll explain why later.
* Noah competes in the one on one turned 3v3 duel, Owen using him as a weapon. Well intentioned, of course. They end up winning, and they share the two medals Owen won in the original.
* Noah ends up flying across the arena, landing on Cody by accident. They pause for two seconds maximum, and stutter and stumble standing up. Alejandro notices and starts putting the pieces together of what might of happened.
* (By the end of the episode he’s positive he knows, so he’s not really shocked when Tyler actually says it.)
* The song of the episode is sung by Courtney and Duncan, about what don’t ask me. Courtney wins that challenge for the Amazons.
* Heather and Alejandro still compete in the hurdles challenge and Heather still wins, leading to the tiebreaker.
If anything is confusing or unclear, please feel free to ask about it! You wanna ask me about it soooo bad actually
#the link on the song is for the aforementioned playlist!#ONLY posting this now because of the brainrot and because the prior context before the actual comic I think would be a nice thing to provide#do you know how many times I watched this episode to make this and draft the real comic?? too many#but I love this episode so it’s ok#I’ve spoken enough so I’ll leave it at this: I’m SO exited to draw the reveal you have no idea#total drama#Starry makes art#world tour but noco are the only ones kissing#total drama world tour#total drama noah#td noah#total drama cody#td cody#cody anderson#noco#total drama noco#td noco#total drama tyler#td tyler#total drama alejandro#td alejandro#total drama sierra#td sierra#total drama owen#td owen#total drama duncan#td duncan#total drama courtney#also do not mention the stains on the Sierra Cody drawings. there’s marker on the other side of that page#‘I’ll keep you my dirty little secret/don’t tell anyone or you’ll be just another regret’ and then…
